The company’s approach to research and development was different from the other companies – while they too have an R&D department, the Ragnar Sellberg Foundation provides funding and scholarships to students interested in waste management R&D. This, in a way, engages young talent at a lower cost and provides an avenue for Ragn-Sells to scout for future employees – killing 2 birds with one stone! The company has seen several successes, such as the development of an alarm system and landfill research, which they are actually implementing. Outsourcing their innovation efforts brings in a fresh perspective from an outsider’s point of view. More companies should do the same!
